36 Things in 2019
If you’ve been following along the last couple of months you’ve probably heard me talk about what I call 36 Things in 2019. It is. quite literally, just that. I ‘ve challenged myself to buy just 3 new clothing items a month for the next 12 months. This challenge came out of the feeling of purchasing new items impulsively and without really thinking them through. I liked them, I bought them. After blogging for the first year I felt like I was falling into the trap of ALWAYS wanting something new and in a habit of buying when I didn’t need and often times already had very similar items in my closet. I started to feel disgusted by the material comparison and wanted to find a way to continue doing what I love, shopping and styling, but in a way that is certainly more relatable to my readers. Thus, #36thingsin2019 was born.
The basic idea is that I will be more thoughtful in my purchases, since I am allowing myself only three a month, and find several ways to style them. This will force me to get creative with what I already have in my closet and think twice before “adding to cart”. I’m also hoping that it inspires you to get creative with your current closet and practice more thoughtful consumption as well. Last week I styled the three pieces I chose for January and I can already tell I’m going to love this. To be honest, I didn’t even recently buy two of the three items. I went through my closet and found a couple staples that I already had and felt they would be a great addition to your wardrobe as well. The third piece I purchased new and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it!
I wonder if any of you have ever felt like you’re always looking for something new? If so, let me know. I hope that some of you will join me on this journey to be more thoughtful consumers in the next year. It feels like it’s a step in the right direction toward putting less value on material things while still satisfying my need to be creative through styling. If you’d like to participate please let me know and use the hashtag #36thingsin2019 while posting to Instagram. I’d love to see how you are getting creative with what you already have and the thoughtful purchasing you are making in 2019.
